Sitaram Tambe, who has played a significant role for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) way back in 1969 at the age of 16, is all set to retire after little our four-and-half decades while dealing with distinct responsibility at the country’s Board.

As the final of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2017-18 is being played between Vidarbha and Delhi at Holkar Stadium in Indore, Tambe would cherish the moment when he will hand over the coveted domestic trophy to the deserving winners which would further mark the end of his all-important services to the Board.

Fondly known for his curial services, Tambe is further storyteller which further saw him revealing an interesting anecdote when he met batting star Sachin Tendulkar, and both have a similar relation

“On my first visit, he was still a teenager, but on my next, he had become an all-time great,” Tambe was quoted as saying by BCCI.tv.

The 66-year-old has been the longest serving employee with the BCCI after making his way in the Board’s responsibilities as an office assistant.

While shouldering the responsibilities with great enthusiasm, Tambe was also bound to present the trophies to the different venues across the country.

“I had gone to deliver the Ranji Trophy to Indore last year (2016) and when I handed it over to the crew there, the top of it broke while the trophy was being removed. It weighs 15 kgs. We called a local expert, took the trophy to his workshop and sat there till the work was complete. By the time we reached the ground with the trophy, it was 2 am and when Gujarat were handed the trophy, it was in pristine condition,” Sitaram reminisced.

Taking history into consideration, the BCCI has started off their services at the Brabourne Stadium. Sitaram further became a familiar face when he went on to become the vital part of the Board while the Wankhede Stadium also grabbed the eyeballs with the BCCI’s head office installed in its vicinity.

Interestingly, Tambe is the one, who has dispatched the letter to legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s home at Bandra when the former Indian batsman started off his career at the age of 16 (1989), after being picked by the BCCI’s national selection committee.

Moreover, Sitaram went to Tendulkar’s home in 2013 to get souvenirs signed by the Mumbaikar after latter’s 24-year-long illustrious career came to an end.

“I had the pleasure of delivering the official letter to Sachin Tendulkar’s father at this residence. When he retired after a 24-year-long career, I had again gone to his house to get his autographs on some souvenirs,” Tambe maintained.

However, with the advancement in technology, the announcements regarding the teams have taken to a new high which does not require a member to dispatch the telegrams or rush to their home. Sitaram had done everything which further saw him coordinating with the administration regarding the foreign trips and much more when Team India was scheduled to play.

On the other side, BCCI is will part ways with seniors workers which includes Jayant Jhaveri, B Laxman and Dr Vece Paes, who have given their quality time to make things possible during the respective tenures.
