The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is willing to do everything in their power to resume international cricket from their side. Several current and former cricketers are of the view that the resumption of the sport can lift people’s spirits at this time of ongoing health crisis. As such, the Indian cricket Board hasn’t ruled out touring Sri Lanka for the six-match limited-overs series in July.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak all over the world, countries have shut borders for a specific period to avoid its penetration. Though it won’t kill the deadly virus, the aim is to break the chain of transmission until medical experts find a suitable vaccine or drug. The likes of England, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and India all had their respective series suspended in March.

The BCCI even called off the 13th season Indian Premier League (IPL) indefinitely before postponing it once. However, its treasurer Arun Dhumal claimed that India would tour the island nation, provided they receive clearance from their government and if it doesn’t endanger the safety and health of their players.

“It all depends on government directives pertaining to lockdown relaxations and travel restrictions. We are open to travel if it doesn’t compromise safety and health of our boys.” Dhumal said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Unfortunately, Sri Lankan Cricket currently has no media rights holders and is keen on bringing in broadcasters as well. An Indian tour to Sri Lanka would indeed prop things up since it can prove as an interesting showdown between the two sides.

“If the BCCI is saying they are ready to tour, that’s just smokescreen. They are telling Sri Lanka, we are willing to honour bilateral commitments.” a source claimed.
