BCCI Receives Over 2000 Applications For the Coaching Staff Posts

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited fresh applications for the role of support staffs along with head coach of team India. The positions will be vacant after the upcoming series against West Indies. The deadline for submitting applications came to an end on July 31, and as per reports, BCCI has received more than 2000 applications for the post of head coach.

BCCI receives over 2000 applications for head coach

The tenure of the current crop of the head coach and support staffs came to an end after the World Cup. But BCCI decided to extend their stint by 45 days until the series against West Indies comes to an end. In the meantime, BCCI invited applications for the posts of head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach, physiotherapist, strength and conditioning coach and administrative manager. The apex body for cricket in India has received over 2000 applications on the coach requirements, but no big names have applied for the role of head coach. The incumbent coaching staffs – Ravi Shastri, Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar will get an automatic entry in the selection process.

Reports emerged that heavyweight names like Tom Moody, Mike Hesson, Mahela Jayawardene have applied for the role of head coach. Indian names like Robin Singh and Lalchand Rajput have also thrown their hat in the ring. On the contrary, no big names have made themselves available for the job considering that incumbent Ravi Shastri might retain his chair. According to a report, agents and managers have sent the profiles of the aspirants, and the BCCI may take more time to shortlist the important candidates.

Meanwhile, popular perception says that Shastri will get a reappointment. Skipper Virat Kohli has backed Shastri to continue the role, and Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) member  Anshuman Gaekwad has thrown his support to the incumbent position holder. The CoA appointed three-member CAC panel will pick India’s next head coach.
