ToggleIndia bowed out of the ICC World Cup 2019 losing to New Zealand by 18 runs in a rain-marred semifinal at the Manchester. Since then, reports emerged that head coach Ravi Shastri is unlikely to get an extension whose tenure ends after the series against West Indies. But the former India cricketer is likely to get a preference when Kapil Dev-led ad-hoc committee sits to decide India’s next coach.
Shastri to get preference to coach’s role
Ravi Shastri, who joined the team in 2017 after Anil Kumble decided to step down as the head coach, has enjoyed great success with this Indian team. Under the leadership of Virat Kohli and Shastri, India have made it to the top of the Test rankings, while they occupied the second spot in the ODIs. Also, he is likely to have a good rapport with the players and is well-known for his man-management.

As a result, Ravi Shastri is likely to retain his spot at the helm of Team India. A BCCI official during a chat with NDTV revealed that Shastri will get preference if he reapplies going by his outstanding record with the national team.
“Ravi (Shastri) has done everything right for the team,” a BCCI official told NDTV. “They have become No.1 in Tests, they were No.2 in ODIs till England took over. One bad match does not make the coach bad. If he reapplies he will get preference,” he added.

Meanwhile, a Kapil Dev-led three-member ad-hoc panel will meet to decide the future of Ravi Shastri. The committee also consists of former cricketers Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy. As per recent developments, Shastri is likely to reapply for the role along with his close friend and bowling coach Bharat Arun.
