BCCI Shortlists Six Names For Head Coach Position, Interview To Be Conducted On August 16

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted six names who will be interviewed for the post of head coach of Indian cricket team on August 16. As per multiple reports, the six names who have been shortlisted are Tom Moody, Robin Singh, Lalchand Rajput, Mike Hesson, Phil Simmons and Ravi Shastri – the present head coach of the Indian cricket team.

Starting from Moody, the former Australian all-rounder is one of the strongest candidates for the job. This is the third time that he has applied for the position. Moody was most recently the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. After World Cup 2019, the franchise roped in England’s World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss.

Robin Singh has been part of India’s backroom staff as fielding coach. He has been associated with multiple T20 franchises and is currently part of Mumbai Indians’ set-up as well.

Rajput has coached teams like India, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. Under him, Afghanistan were named as full-time nation. He has also been part of Mumbai Indians set-up in past.

Hesson, former New Zealand coach, was with New Zealand from 2012 to 2018. Under him, the team played the final of 2015 World Cup. Hesson left the job a year ahead of World Cup 2019 and was later appointed as head coach of Kings XI Punjab. Hesson recently left his job at IPL. The 44-year-old is also running for the job of Pakistan and Bangladesh head coach.

Simmons, the former Wes Indies player, has coached West Indies, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. Under him, WI won T20 World Cup in 2016.

Last but not the list, Shastri is also on the list. He was given an automatic entry in the race. He is highly likely to keep his job and there are bleak chances of Shastri getting replaced.

The interview for the head coach job will be done on August 16. Kapil Dev-headed panel will be ranking the coaches and will send the list to BCCI. Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy are two other members in the panel.

It is not yet confirmed when the board will conduct interviews for the job of other coaching positions. MSK Prasad and other members of the selection panel will conduct the interview for various coaches position.
