The former India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has lost his job of batting coach of team India as BCCI decided not to extend his contract. After sensing his exit, Bangar had a heated altercation with one of the selectors. BCCI; meanwhile, is yet to intervene and as per reports, they can only act if it has a mention in the manager’s report.

Meanwhile, Bangar was only one to lose his job from the incumbent job holders. Bharat Arun (bowling coach) and R Sridhar (fielding coach) have retained their posts for another term. BCCI; however, can’t take any actions unless administrative manager Sunil Subramanian or head coach Ravi Shastri file an official report.

The official while accepting the incident questionned the need for escalation now that Sanjay Bangar is not under BCCI’s contract.

“In such a scenario, one needs to go strictly by the rule book. First and foremost, the man who Bangar is alleged to have insulted, the national selector Gandhi, he needs to officially report the matter,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.

“Outgoing administrative manager Subramanian, in his mandatory report, needs to mention the matter clearly. Last but not the least, head coach Shastri, Bangar’s reporting head, also needs to file it in writing that such an incident happened. If all these boxes are not ticked, then there is no question of placing it before the CoA (Committee of Administrators),” he added.

Sanjay Bangar has been with the national team for quite a few years now. Although Virat Kohli & Co have gone from strength to strength, they are yet to address the middle-order concern which costed the World Cup. The selectors didn’t seem happy with the former all-rounder’s job in his last tenure. His is likely to join Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.
