BCCI gave shocking news on International Women’s Day, known for celebrating the triumphs and achievements of women.
Meanwhile, BCCI announced their new contracts for its players and a revised salary structure. Further, BCCI introduced a new A+ category and included some of the ace players and offered a new salary of whopping Rs 7 crore.
The newly introduced grade has five names and contains all male players. The massive gender pay gap irked cricket lovers, and they couldn’t help but express their anguish on social media.
While the male players in Grade C category earn Rs 1 crore per annum, the female players, even after being in Grade A are restricted to just Rs 50 lakhs.
Meanwhile, all Grade A male players will be getting Rs 5 crore each annually. While Grade B and Grade C male players will receive an annual package of Rs 3 crore each and Rs 1 crore each, respectively.
However, no female cricketers have touched the crore figure mark. This glaring disparity had left BCCI at the receiving end.
The announcement came to light on the eve of Women’s Day and Twitterati couldn’t stop highlighting the irony. Meanwhile, many slammed the board for being misogynist and biased on social media.
Here is the how the Twitter reacted to such disparity:
Dear @BCCI please show your appreciation for women's cricket by reducing this appalling pay gap. And please negotiate contracts for telecast of their matches. We have an excellent team that a lot of us fans regret not being able to watch perform regularly. pic.twitter.com/rlPMmuTtcU

Today we talk about equal status for women in all areas but data shows different picture:- there is lot of deference between pay for women in Indian cricket team approx . 14 times less then men cricket team .
Please do for this difference.

Yes women's Cricket is not commercially as viable (yet) as men's Cricket but this pay difference is still staggering given that as an anthele both men and women put in the same blood and sweat.
As the richest board in the Cricket world #BCCI can definitely pay women more. pic.twitter.com/3bzeFliqxd
