Ben Stokes has grown as cricketer. His knock at Old Trafford against the West Indies displayed his maturity. Ben Stokes, the attacking all-rounder, adjusted his game and scored his slowest Test century. For most of the time Ben Stokes was batting at an average of nearly 35 which well complimented his patient partner Dom Sibley as they forged a key partnership.

Ben Stokes lost his wicket to Kemar Roach for 176 runs. His innings was laced with 17 boundaries and two hits over the fence as it helped the Englishmen post a dominating total of 469/9 before declaring their innings. Stokes after the match said that it was more than just instinctive play which has helped him grow his game.

Stokes said that being instinctive has worked for him but at this point of his career and with the experience he has earned, he understands his game pretty well all the time and tries not to get carried away.

“Numbers, figures…I don’t really care,” said Stokes, who shared a fourth-wicket stand of 260 with Sibley that rescued England from a top-order collapse.

“The main number for me is how many wins,” he said.

“I was more buzzing that I faced 300 balls than I was when I got to my hundred, that’s something I never thought I’d be capable of doing.”

“Being an instinctive player is great but there’s time in the past where I’ve let how I’m playing at the time affect me, thinking I can play some big shots and I’d be alright,” Ben Stokes said.

“I feel at an age and an experience level where I really understand my game pretty much all the time and I try not to get carried away,” he added.

After England declared their innings, West Indies who lead the three-match series 1-0, trail by 437 runs and resume Day 3 on 32/1 with Kraigg Brathwaite and Alzarri Joseph opening the proceedings for the side.
