Bharat Arun has done a fine job with the Indian pace battery and the results have been palpable. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami have taken giant strides in the last four years. However, Sanjay Bangar hasn’t been able to add solidarity in the middle order. In fact, India has had its perennial issues with the number four batsman.

R Sridhar is expected to hold on to his position.

Subsequently, Bharat Arun is expected to hold on to his role whereas India can have a new batting coach. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited fresh applications for the support staff and the last date to apply is 30th July.

Meanwhile, the Indian board has extended the contract of the current think tank by 45 days for the tour of the West Indies.

“In the last 18 to 20 months, the work put in by Arun has been phenomenal. The current Indian attack is considered to be the best in the longest format. Mohammed Shami back at his best and (Jasprit) Bumrah’s consistency is a few things Arun must get credit for. It’s up to the selectors but they might find it difficult to replace him,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Friday.

The official added that Sanjay Bangar hasn’t played a big role in the success of the players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been performing much before Bangar came into the fray. He has no role in their success. However, his job was to create a few solid options in the middle order and we have seen in the World Cup that he has failed miserably in that,” the official added.

On the other hand, Jonty Rhodes has also thrown his hat in the ring for the fielding coach. However, R Sridhar has also done a good job for the Indian team as the fielding level has gone up.

“Rhodes is a big name and his candidature can’t be ignored. However, this also needs to be taken into account how the team’s fielding performance has been,” the official said.

India will play the first T20I against West Indies on 3rd August at Florida.
