Of late, Jasprit Bumrah has been a regular headliner in the cricketing world for his exploits on the field. The flamboyant bowler is ruling the cricketing world with his exceptional pace coupled with swing and accuracy. Meanwhile, the former legendary cricketer from West Indies, Andy Roberts showers words of praise on the fast bowler.

Jasprit Bumrah gave another exhibition of his class when he ran through the West Indies batting line-up in the second innings of the first Test in Antigua. Bumrah claimed 5/7 in a spell of eight overs as the home side were bundled out for 100 for a 318-run defeat.

Bumrah, who took his five wickets in eight overs, rattled through the top order, attacking the stumps relentlessly in a devastating spell. He laid a marker when he had Kraig Brathwaite caught behind for one in the first over and after a mere blink of the eyes, West Indies were reduced to 15 for 5. It is the cheapest five-wicket haul by an India bowler in Test history in terms of runs.

We would have had Jasprit Bumrah – Andy Roberts

Legendary West Indies paceman Andy Roberts was present to watch this exhibition of pace bowling and wished that the home side had Bumrah turning out for them. Further, the flamboyant cricketer quoted that a player like Jasprit Bumrah will always put an element of doubt in the batsman mind.

“It’s the pace that catches my eyes first. I wouldn’t say pace is the biggest asset of a fast bowler but I would say it’s the most valuable one. If you have pace, batsmen fear you, because, at the back of the mind, they are thinking of safety, how to avoid being hit. You can mix the pace and fool them,” Andy Roberts said.

“And if you can swing the ball at his pace, nothing like it. Such bowlers thrill you. It’s the strangest action that I have seen on a cricket field. I need to study that for a longer time to understand the mechanics of his action. But if he were born here back in our days, we would have had him. A freak was the only element missing in our bowling line-up. In fact, Bumrah is the only variety of bowler we had never produced. Then I don’t think even India would produce one like him again,” he said as per Indian Express.

Bumrah has now picked up 5-wicket hauls in all the overseas countries he has toured. He is the first Asian bowler to pick up a five-wicket haul in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies. Most probably, he would like to finish the tour with good numbers in his account.
