Brad Hogg, former Australian leg-spinner, is very impressed with the work ethics and the temperament of rookie Royal Challengers Bangalore opener, Devdutt Padikkal, and he feels that the southpaw has got all the goods to play for the national team in the upcoming years.

Devdutt Padikkal has enthralled the fans as well as pundits with not only his solid strokeplay but also his brilliant temperament in the ongoing edition of the IPL. And, Hogg is very impressed with the way the left-hander has made subtle changes to his technique, especially against the short ball.

Earlier, Brad Hogg had noted that Devdutt Padikkal struggled against the short-pitch bowling of Sheldon Cottrell but the former leg-spinner feels that the left-hander has worked on that aspect of his play and has played some cracking pull shots post that game.

“It’s Devdutt Padikkal’s first IPL and he has made three fifties out of four innings. In the second game, he really got tested by Cottrell with that short ball into the ribs. But I have seen him play a couple of pull shots against quality quick bowling after that. This kid has got the goods to play for India,” Brad Hogg said on his YouTube channel.

‘He is a quicker learner’- Brad Hogg on Devdutt Padikkal

Hogg added that the fact Padikkal was able to counter the short-pitch ploy by Jasprit Bumrah in the next game, shows that the youngster is a quick learner and a great thinker of the game.

“In the second game, Padikkal got tested by Cottrell by the short ball. The next game, he pulled Bumrah with the short ball to the body. That showed me that he is a quick thinker. He learns quickly. And that is probably the best batting performance that I have seen, his three fifties in four innings,” Brad Hogg said.

Devdutt Padikkal has thus far registered three half-centuries in his first 4 IPL games and the Virat Kohli-led team-management will hope that the southpaw continues his form in the upcoming fixtures.
