Former Australia leg-spinner, Brad Hogg reveals what could be the reasons for the selectors overlooking Shaun Marsh from the Test squad despite good form in the domestic matches.

Marsh has been in tremendous form post the resumption of cricket during the pandemic era. The left-hander has struck 3 centuries in the last 4 Sheffield Shield matches for Western Australia.

However, it is the Victorian, Will Pucovski who has grabbed all the headlines for his two double hundreds in two matches as an opener and made it into the squad to play against India. Marsh last played a Test for Australia on India’s previous tour in 2018-19.

Youngsters picked over 37-year-old Shaun Marsh: Brad Hogg

In a recent Twitter question-answer interaction with fans, Brad Hogg was asked why Shaun Marsh wasn’t selected in the Test squad. The former leg-spinner opined that youngsters – like Will Pucovski and Cameron Green – are given the nod over Shaun Marsh, who is 37 years of age.

The cricketer-turned-commentator feels that some young blood has been injected into the team. The left-hander averaged 25 in 10 Tests in 2018 and played just one game in 2019 before getting dropped.

The Australian team will go into a transition as senior players like Tim Paine, David Warner, Nathan Lyon will retire in a few years. However, Hogg would love to see his Perth Scorchers teammate wearing the Baggy Green again.

Bradd Hogg tweeted, “Chances have been given and some new blood have batted the house down which makes the decision to go back to Shaun tough at the age of 37. I would love to see my mate in Aussie colours again though. #Cricket #INDvAUS.”

Australia will host India for 6 limited-overs games and 4 Test matches. The ODI series commences on 27th November followed by the T20I series. The high-intensity Border-Gavaskar series will begin on 17th December with a pink-ball day-night Test in Adelaide followed by the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, New Year’s Test in Sydney, and the last Test match in Australia’s fortress, Brisbane.
