Breaking: West Indies Announce World Cup Squad

West Indies, on Wednesday, became the tenth and the last team to announce their squad for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2019. The West Indies squad was chosen by the new selection panel comprising CWI director of cricket Jimmy Adams, newly appointed coach Floyd Reifer and chairman of selectors Robert Haynes. Jason Holder will lead the team in the mega-event which will start on May 30.

As expected, Chris Gayle made it to the squad. Gayle has already announced he would retire after the World Cup. In-form allrounder Andre Russell also made it to the team while there was no place for the likes of Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard.  While Gayle recently played against England, Russell has not played an ODI since July last year. However, he has been in terrific form at the moment in the ongoing IPL and looks set to be a regular in the playing eleven.

“I spoke to Andre a few days ago and he assured me that he will be okay for the World Cup. He has a few niggles. He has some pain behind his knee but he assured he’ll be okay for the World Cup,” Jimmy Adams said.

West Indies, meanwhile, will be eyeing an impressive run in the World Cup. The two-time World Cup-winners have proved their credentials with a stunning display against hosts and one of the favourites England earlier this year.  Jason Holder & Co gave England a run for their money as the five-match series ended 2-2. The Caribbean outfit is considered by many as the dark horses and they will be looking to do well. West Indies will start their campaign against Pakistan on May 31.
