Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has proved to be a handful for Delhi Capitals. He has played important cameos and also chipped in with wickets besides bowling at the death. West Indies legend Brian Lara, a part of official broadcasters panel for IPL 2020, said that RCB let him go and now see what he’s doing.

Delhi Capitals revived their fortunes with Marcus Stoinis being asked to open against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Qualifier 2. Stoinis, who has opened in BBL, began his knock on a dominating note as he fired all cylinders to give Delhi Capitals a dominating star in a crucial match. Stoinis set the tempo for Delhi Capitals as they went on to add 189 runs on board.

He got let off by RCB last year and see what he’s doing for DC this year: Brian Lara

Lara mentioned that he had a conversation with Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting on if he should open the batting and it worked out for them.  “He got let off by RCB last year and see what he’s doing for DC this year,” Lara said on Star Sports after DC beat SRH to reach set-up their maiden IPL final clash against defending champions Mumbai Indians.

“Ricky (Ponting) had spoken to me a couple of times about the possibilities of opening the batting. It just worked out and we thought this was the game to do it. In one of the games, I batted at No.3 and it didn’t come off as we were chasing 220,” he recalled.

“Bowling in this format is always hard and it’s more about planning and having a good idea before you get to the ground.”

“Just be clear that in T20, you are not always trying to take wickets but control the run-rate and controlling the game builds some pressure.”

Delhi Capitals entered their maiden IPL final at the back of their win over SunRisers Hyderabad. The capital franchise will take on defending champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2020 final on Tuesday.
