Earlier this month, a long-standing record in Test cricket was on the brink of getting overhauled. The little dynamite from Australia David Warner, during his triple century at the Adelaide Oval against Pakistan, looked well on track to break the record of Brian Lara’s score of 400 in Test cricket. Sadly, Tim Paine realised that his team had scored more than enough and declared the score at 589, leaving Warner unbeaten at 335.

Speaking of the same, the southpaw named Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw as the potential contenders who can break his record apart from David Warner. Rohit Sharma and Prithvi Shaw have had contrasting start to their Test careers. While Rohit Sharma blossomed when promoted to the top order in red-ball cricket; Prithvi Shaw made a century in his debut but has been on the sidelines since then.

Opining about the Indian limited-overs vice-captain, Lara said that if he is on a song, on his day, on a good deck, he can leapfrog the 400-mark in the longer format. The 50-year old believes that one will need an attacking option to overhaul the score and supports Prithvi Shaw to make a comeback despite falling off the radar.

“A guy like Rohit Sharma who you know you wonder if he’s still a test cricketer or not. If he gets going on a good day, on his day, on a good pitch, right situation he can do it.” Lara said as quoted by New Corp.

“It will need an attacking option. I know he’s fell off the radar a little bit, Prithvi Shaw was one of those attacking options. Hey, here’s a 19-year-old who has the world in front of him, hopefully, he can come back soon.” he added further.

Lara wanted to congratulate Warner at the Adelaide Oval:

The run-machine from Trinidad&Tobago himself seemed disheartened at his record not getting breached. Lara genuinely believed that their team might have let him go on to break the record. The left-handed batsman opined that the milestones are meant to be broken and it would have been sensational for an attacking batsman to breach it. Lara further conceded that being in Adelaide, he would have gone to meet him at the opportune time had he gone past his 15-year-old score.

“I was hoping they might catch me and get me (out) there and that was one of the reasons I was hoping they might have let him go for it. It would have been amazing to walk out there (as Sobers did). Records are made to be broken. It’s great when they are broken by attacking players. Entertainers. Being in Adelaide I would have got an opportunity to if not walk out at least meet him at this opportune time,” Lara stated.
