Young opener Cameron Bancroft found it challenging to handle the short deliveries directed towards him by James Anderson at Melbourne. Anderson, who is known for prodigious swing dig the ball hard and made it tough for Cameron Bancroft. However, he is confident of putting up a better display in the next Test.

Born and bred on the fast, bouncy wickets on the country’s western coastline, Cameron Bancroft has been raised on a diet of short bowling supplied by an overflowing supply of nasty, hostile pace bowlers. Bancroft seemed surprised more than anyone on how he faced difficulty in front of the bouncers.

The 25-year-old Bancroft was caught in no man’s land, unsure about whether to attack or get away from the line of the ball. However, the short ball strategy that England used has not put any fear into the minds of the young top-order batsman.

Bancroft was spot on when asked if he expects England to employ the same tactics.

“I hope so. I think I play a short ball well. I know I got myself into a couple of awkward positions last game, which I was very surprised about. If that happens, it happens … if they do (bowl short), bring it on, enjoy it. I know that’s a tactic a lot of teams use. That’s part of the game, isn’t it?” Bancroft said.

While Bancroft has cleared all the speculations about short deliveries, there is one area which has troubled him a lot. Bancroft has gone past fifty only once despite getting starts in the last four innings out of five.

But despite not cashing in once he is set, Bancroft admitted he has been looking on the positives in his game. Bancroft will play his fifth Test for the Aussies.

“I’m not really sure – I think it’s something I could probably over-analyze a little bit. I’m doing the hard work, I’m getting myself in. It’s been great to be able to get the team off to a great start. But there’s a lot of really positive things I’m doing right now and life’s too short to sit here and worry about all the bad things that are going on. I’m certainly not going to do that,” Bancroft signed off.
