Murali Vijay scored a fine knock of 129 runs off just 132 balls in the drawn match against Cricket Australia XI. Hence, the flamboyant batsman has sealed his opening position with KL Rahul for the first Test match against Australia. Vijay was dropped after the first two Test matches against England after an ordinary performance. However, the stylish batsman got back into form after plying from on his trade in the County Championship for Essex.

Meanwhile, India’s opener Prithvi Shaw scored a fine knock of 66 runs in the first innings. Shaw twisted his ankle while taking a catch, which has ruled him out of the first Test at Adelaide. Thus, Murali Vijay got his chance to open the innings with KL Rahul.

Subsequently, the Tamil Nadu batsman grabbed his chance with both hands. Vijay brought his fifty with a good lofted shot towards the third man region. The right-hander completed his fifty from 91 balls. In fact, Vijay decided to change gears after completing his half-century.

Vijay scored 77 runs off just 41 balls to take on the attack against Cricket Australia XI bowlers. The right-hander scored 16 fours and five sixes in his fine knock. Furthermore, India’s out-of-form batsman KL Rahul was also able to get back into form as he scored a good inning of 62 runs. Rahul had been struggling in the recent past but was able to finally find his touch.

Thus, KL Rahul and Murali Vijay were able to add 109 for the opening stand which would have added to their confidence. India’s opening pair looks settled in Vijay and Rahul after the visitors suffered a huge blow of Prithvi Shaw.

India ended day four play at 211-2 and the match ended in a draw. The first Test match will take place at Adelaide from December 6.
