Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has once again reiterated that India should boycott Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup. There was a widespread call to boycott Pakistan after the Pulwama attack. On February 14, a suicide bomber from the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a CRPF bus, killing at least 40 personnel and leaving many critically wounded.

Following the attack, the sentiment in the country was to boycott Pakistan from every sector and cricket was in that too. The BCCI also explored the possibility of boycotting the nation which encourages terrorism and even asked the fellow nations to cut ties with Pakistan. However, the ICC was against the notion and the BCCI could not go ahead with its plan of boycotting Pakistan.

But Gambhir, who recently won the election from East Delhi,  has once again reiterated that, saying that one cannot play with the sentiment of common mass. Urging his countrymen to show unity, Gambhir said that even if India are up against Pakistan in the final, they should forfeit the game.

“We can’t play with the sentiments of our country,” he told Zee News Hindi. “Two points are not important than the lives of our soldiers but for this, the entire country needs to be on the same page. We should have the courage to lose points even it’s the first match or the finals.”

“Even if we boycott playing the World Cup final against Pakistan, the country must stand together, there can’t be a difference of opinions,” said Gambhir. “There should not be any backlash for the decision taken.”

Well, it is highly unlikely that India would boycott Pakistan as it could invite bigger repercussion from the ICC. The World Cup will start on May 30 while India and Pakistan will meet on June 16 in Manchester.
