Unfortunately, Quinon de Kock’s first game as a skipper vanished out. The washout in the opening T20I of the series against India has left the Proteas disappointed as skipper Quinton de Kock made it clear that the team is looking to play as many games as possible with an eye on the World T20 in Australia next year.

As India and South Africa get ready for a face-off in the second T20I of the three-match series, Proteas skipper Quinton de Kock said that the added responsibility of captaincy is a new stepping stone in his career.

I will try to do my best – Quinton de Kock

De Kock is one of the senior players in this new-look team and has been handed captaincy in the absence of Faf du Plessis as the management is looking to groom him ahead of the T20 World Cup next year.

IPL regular de Kock, who won the final with Mumbai Indians earlier this year, is pretty familiar with the conditions in India. The skipper said that winning the title is so far the biggest achievement of his cricketing career.

“I am not too concerned. It is a new stepping stone in my career. It gives me extra responsibility in the team. We will see how it goes, it can affect me positively or negatively, but it is too early to say. I will try to do my best,” de Kock told reporters.

“It is the biggest thing that I have won so far. I have not won a World Cup, once I win that, then it would be the biggest. Winning an IPL final is a big deal and it was a great achievement for me. My opinion is mine. Winning the IPL is currently the biggest achievement for me,” de Kock said.

Left-handed Miller along with De Kock and Kagiso Rabada form the core of a new-look South African limited-overs set-up which is going through a transition phase with the first stop being a tour of India. Quinton always had great success against India, especially, in shorter formats of the game.
