The former skipper of India Sourav Ganguly has become a front-line heading for the past couple of days following his decision to head into BCCI as President. Ahead of taking his new role, the flamboyant cricketer revealed his future plans. He highlighted the Conflict of Interest issue, which has become a thorn in the recent past for obvious reasons.

Sourav Ganguly is all set to be selected uncontested as the new BCCI president. The former India captain filed his proposal for the coveted post on Monday at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. He was attended by former BCCI administrators Niranjan Shah and N Srinivasan as he became the only nominee to file the nomination.

Cricketers are part of the system – Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly, who is all set to become the next BCCI president, has acknowledged that it will be a test for him to look after the “biggest organisation” in the cricket world. Ganguly stated that the recent buzz about ‘conflict of interest’ in the BCCI, is in fact an ‘issue and ‘really need to be looked at’.

The stylish southpaw has been holding posts in the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the past five years where he currently serves as president. BCCI President candidate Ganguly talked about an array of topics on Monday when he spoke to the reporters.

“Cricketers are a part of the system but the numbers were not that much in the past. Conflict of Interest is an issue and I am not sure whether we will get the best cricketers. It really needs to be looked at. NCA, CAC, appointment of coaches… there has been an issue with everything,” said Ganguly.

“Captaining India was a lot more challenging. BCCI president will be a different challenge. The house (BCCI) needs to be set in order. No politician has been in touch with me. I thank Mamata didi (West Bengal Chief Minister) and I am very happy to get her support. I have not received any money – talks, and discussions,” Ganguly told reporters.

All in all, it will be a tough job for Sourav Ganguly, as the current circumstances aren’t in favour of the Indian board. The International Cricket Council is making things tough for BCCI with their new set of plans on a regular basis.

However, as things stand right now, it will only be a stint for 10 months at the top for Ganguly. Later, he will have to go in for a cooling off period from July 2020 under the new rules.
