Though it was the fantastic death bowling display, which helped Kings XI Punjab to win the game, the analysts and fans were very critical on Ravichandran Ashwin for his Mankading, which saw well-set Jos Buttler walk back to the hut. Meanwhile, the IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla quoted that they discussed to not perform Mankading in IPL with all captains in the presence of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
The skipper of Kings XI Punjab performed Mankading to dismiss Jos Buttler at the crucial stage of the game. As per the latest rules, the third umpire declared out, as Ravi Ashwin has no intentions of taking his appeal back.
It was in the 13th over of the game when Ashwin was bowling to Sanju Samson. During the course, Ravi Ashwin stopped himself in the run-up and affected a run-out on the non-striker end to put Jos Buttler in a question.
As a courtesy, we warn the batsman – Rajeev Shukla
Regarding the same, the chairman of Indian Premier League Rajeev Shukla revealed that it was discussed in the meeting when all the captains were present. However, despite that, Ashwin did that to take the wicket of Buttler, which a certain section of people believes a game-changing moment.
“If I remember in one of the meetings of captains & match referee where I was also present as chairman. It had been decided that if non-striking batsman steps out bowler as a courtesy will not run him out @IPL @BCCI,” he tweeted.
“Most probably this meeting was in Kolkata. It was on the eve of one of the editions of IPL where Dhoni & Virat both were present. @BCCI @IPL,” he added without specifying the exact edition before which this decision was made.

Ashwin’s action was heavily criticised by RR’s brand ambassador Shane Warne. He also questioned those who found nothing wrong with it. Further, he also asked whether if that is permitted when it was done to Virat Kohli in the finals of ICC World Cup.
‘Mankading’ is legally permissible. But it is a controversial form of dismissal. This is the first time it has taken place in the IPL. Ashwin faced backlash for not playing in the spirit of the game as KXIP kickstarted their campaign with a controversial 14-run win.
