Cheteshwar Pujara To Play For Saurashtra in the Ranji Quarters
Cheteshwar Pujara, who returned with colossal figures from Indian National Cricket team‘s tour of Australia is in no mood to take a break from cricket. After an exhausting trip, Pujara will now feature for his stateside Saurashtra in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
Meanwhile, this will be a massive boost for Saurashtra as Pujara has been in the form of his life. Cheteshwar Pujara returned with 521 runs at an average of 74 including three half-centuries which got him the man of the series award. Saurashtra coach Sitanshu Kotak admitted that it would be a huge boost and a learning curve for the youngsters to play with Pujara.
“Cheteshwar coming back from Australia and playing will be a huge boost to the batting. We gave chances to a lot of young batsmen (such as Harvik Desai and Vishvaraj Jadeja) and they all have done well. If they can play with Pujara, it will be a great learning curve,” Saurashtra coach Kotak told Sportstar on Thursday.
Before flying to Australia, Pujara had appeared in one Ranji game — against Chhattisgarh — and had scored 56. However, there is no clarity whether he will take the leadership role from Jaydev Unadkat.
“Pujara arrived on Wednesday, and he is a kind of a person who always says ‘the player who will be more available should lead. But that is not a concern for us right now as everybody will be happy to have him anyway,” he added.
Saurashtra will play their quarterfinal clash against Uttar Pradesh starting from January 15.
