India’s chairman of selectors MSK Prasad has had his say on the issue of whether the Indian players should play IPL ahead of World Cup 2019 or not. Putting his opinion forward, former India stumper batted in favour of the players to play the league.

“I have a different view on IPL. It’s an Indian international tournament. Rather than sitting and training, this IPL offers a competitive atmosphere,” he said at India Today Conclave 2019.

“A normal bilateral series will not offer that much competitive environment. It’s just going to be about four overs [for bowlers] What’s more important is other than 4 overs, how are they going to maintain their fitness. So IPL is going to be important,” Prasad added.

The issue has been addressed by Indian skipper Virat Kohli as well and he also did not think that the players should miss IPL.

Now when the chief selector has also backed the players to play the league, in no case any player would miss any match of the league.

Still, managing the workload will be first on the list of players as World Cup starts just two weeks after IPL final and in no case India would want any player to get unfit for the tournament.

The workload of key players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshar Kumar will be on the top.

Kohli missed many series in 2018/19 to take rest while Bumrah was also rested for long after the Test series in Australia.

Bhuvneshwar has had struggled with his fitness for a while and is also rested for the first two ODIs against Australia.

Rohit has been in action for long now and hasn’t taken considerable rest that could have really seen him take some time off.

IPL kicks on March 23 while the final of the tournament will be played n May 12. India play their first World Cup game against South Africa on June 5.

Later, India will go on to face rest of the eight teams in the league stage of the 10-team tournament.
