West Indies star Chris Gayle faces action from International Cricket Council after flouting their direction in the ongoing clash against England. In the wake of MS Dhoni’s gloves controversy, the ICC had refused the veteran batsman permission to use ‘Universe Boss’ logo on his bat.

Gayle, a self-proclaimed ‘Universe Boss’, had requested the ICC   to allow him to use it for his bat branding. However, he was informed that he can’t use any clothing or sporting equipment for personal messages. The Army insignia on Dhoni’s gloves had caused a furore and later the ICC had asked him to not wear those gloves.  In both cases, the ICC cited equipment regulation violation.

The ICC has cited regulation D.1 from the ICC’s rulebook that deals with clothing regulation to drive home their point.

Regulation D.1:

“No Logo shall be permitted to be displayed on Cricket Clothing or Cricket Equipment, other than a National Logo, a Commercial Logo, an Event Logo, a Manufacturer’s Logo, a Player’s Bat Logo, a Charity Logo or a Non-Commercial Logo as provided in these regulations.”

The regulation further goes on to say:

“In addition, where any Match official becomes aware of any clothing or equipment that does not comply with these Regulations, he shall be authorised to prevent the offending person from taking the field of play (or to order them from the field of play, if appropriate) until the non-compliant clothing or equipment is removed or appropriately covered up.”

Dhoni was quick to pay heed to ICC’s instructions. In the match against Australia, Dhoni had worn different gloves with no logo on them. But unlike Dhoni, Gayle has openly flouted ICC’s order in the ongoing match against England. All eyes were on his bat when he came out on the field and to everyone’s disbelief he sported that same sticker on his willow.

The veteran West Indies star can land in hot water for openly going against ICC’s instructions. With the ICC doing all it could to make Dhoni get rid of the gloves, the pressure will be now on them to take action against Gayle.
