The Big Bash League (BBL) is all gearing up for its ninth season after eight successful seasons since its transformation in 2011 from being the competition between state-based teams to city-based franchises. The teams have slowly and steadily been filling the missing pieces ahead of the upcoming season. Amid the developments with regards to the extravaganza, Perth Scorchers have signed up Chris Jordan for the forthcoming season.

The signing of the English quick bowler comes after the Perth-based franchise disclosed the inclusion of another England player in Liam Livingstone. Jordan has been one of the most underrated fast bowlers in T20 circuit, having formed a pivotal part of England’s T20 setup. The Barbados-born pace bowler is best known for his searing and toe-crushing yorkers in death overs.

He has shaped himself to be in good form for his national team, taking seven wickets in four games at an average of 14.71 in the recently concluded T20 series against New Zealand. Jordan also successfully defended the score in the super over against the Kiwis, leading England to a nail-biting win. In 43 T20 fixtures, the 31-year old has snared 54 scalps at an average of 24.07.

Adam Voges optimistic about Chris Jordan’s impact in the forthcoming season:

Adam Voges, the coach of Perth Scorchers, is confident of his experience in T20 cricket coming handy. Voges mainly highlighted his skills at the death overs along with his athleticism on the field and hard-hitting down the order as bonus skills. Jordan will feature for his third franchise in BBL, having already played for Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers previously.

He’s got great experience in T20 cricket and will do a terrific job with ball, particularly his skills at the death. He also provides the all-round package with athleticism in the field and strong batting skills which will be great for the fans. Chris is very professional and will fit in well in the Scorchers set up, I haven’t heard a bad word about him.” Voges said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Perth Scorchers has suffered an exodus of some of their experienced players including the likes of Michael Klinger, Shaun Marsh, Nathan Coulter-Nile, and Hilton Cartwright. They will also be without the services of their fast bowlers namely Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye due to injuries to their back and elbow respectively. Perth Scorchers will face the Sydney Sixers in their opening fixture on 18th of December at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
