CK Khanna Urges BCCI To Donate At Least Rs 5 Crore To Pulwama Martyrs' Families

Helps keep pouring in for the families of the brave soldiers who were martyred in the deadly terrorist attack. In the latest development, BCCI acting president CK Khanna appealed to Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai to sanction at least Rs 5 crore for the affected families.

In one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s three decades of militancy, a suicide bomber from the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a CRPF bus in Pulwama district, killing at least 40 personnel and leaving many critically wounded.

The bus was on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Lethpora town, about 30 km from Srinagar when the attack took place. The entire nation is in a state of shock as well as furious following the gruesome attack. The whole of India is condemning the attack and paying tribute to the fallen brave souls. The cricketing fratnerity has also come forward to pay tribute to the martyrs. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir and others have expressed their grief over the inhumane incident.

In fact, former India opener Virender Sehwag has already declared that children of martyr’s families will be provided free education at his ‘Sehwag International School’ if they wish to apply.

On Saturday, the Vidarbha  team also announced that they would donate their entire Irani Cup winners’ prize money for the welfare of the martyrs’ families. And now CK Khanna has also urged Vinod Rai to follow suit and extend a helping hand to the affected families.

“We are saddened and join our fellow Indian citizens in condemning the dastardly Pulwama Terror attack. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred soldiers,” CK Khanna wrote in a letter to CoA, office bearers and state units.

“I request the Committee of Administrators that BCCI should contribute at least Rs 5 crore through the appropriate government agencies to the families of the martyred soldiers,” he added.

The acting president, in his own capacity also requested the state associations as well as the IPL franchises to make generous contribution to the cause.

“I am also going to request the state associations and the respective Indian Premier League franchise owners to consider making contributions,” wrote Khanna.

He also stated that a two-minute silence be observed in the memory of the martyred soldiers during the first game of the upcoming series against Australia as well as the IPL.

“As a mark of respect to the Central Reserve Force personnel martyred in the terror attack, we should observe a two-minute silence during the first match of the India vs Australia series starting February 24, and during the opening ceremony/inaugural match of the Indian Premier League starting March 23,” he wrote.
