County Cricket: Northamptonshire Signs Proteas Star Temba Bavuma

The Proteas batsman Temba Bavuma has signed a deal with the historic club Northamptonshire for the upcoming County Season. He would be representing them in the second part of the season in 2019. The County Club is pretty happy with the signing, as they believe Temba Bavuma would deliver the goods for them.

Temba Bavuma became the first black African to score a Test century for South Africa. So far, he has made 31 appearances in the longest format, scoring 1488 runs, and now, he will be linking up with the county in the English summer.

Further, he has also accumulated 6680 first-class runs from 125 games after making his first-class debut in 2008. The youngster was also appointed as the captain of South Africa’s domestic team Highveld Lions this year.

Meanwhile, speaking of the signing, the club Chief executive Ray Paine quoted the club has determined to come out on top this time.

For the same, they want to get the international experience in their side and he is hopeful of Bavuma doing the job for them. The 28-year-old will join up with the second-tier side for eight County Championship matches between 14 May and 17 July.

“We are keen to return to the Championship’s top division and hopefully, his runs will help us achieve that,” Payne said. Signing a player of Temba’s international stature underlines our ambitions as a club.”

”His Test experience will bring an added dimension to the team. We’re all looking forward to welcoming a cricketer who is admired and respected around the cricketing world,” he added.

Well, it is an exciting signing from the club. It would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Temba Bavuma in English conditions.
