Suspended Australian opener David Warner won high praise for showing a brilliant piece of sportsmanship during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2018) match. Warner was playing for the St Lucia Stars against the Barbados Tridents which also had Steve Smith in their ranks. The suspended Australian skipper, however, was not in charge of the Barbados Tridents.

The suspended Australian batsman came charging down from the outfield to take a catch. He appeared to take the catch cleanly. Even the commentators were convinced that he had caught it.

Warner’s teammates also started celebrating the catch. However, Warner showed a brilliant act of sportsmanship. Instead of claiming the catch or waiting for the umpire to make a call, Warner tossed the ball back and gestured back that he hadn’t caught it.

Replays showed the ball bounced ever so slightly into Warner’s hands. The commentators lauded Warner for the act of sportsmanship.

“That’s some brilliant sportsmanship from Warner,” one TV commentator said.

Despite his gesture, Warner was not able to get among runs. The southpaw had to head back to the pavilion without bothering the scorers.

However, the suspended Australian skipper Steven Smith scored a quickfire 28 off just 15 deliveries. He has looked in good touch since his return and has played some gritty knocks.

However, Warner has been far from impressive. He failed to make an impression in the Canada Global T20 League, and neither has made any substantial runs in the CPL 2018.

Meanwhile coming back to the team it was St Lucia which returned triumphantly. Kieron Pollard scored a breathtaking century off just 53 deliveries. It was his sensational knock which took the St Lucia Stars to a gigantic total of 226 runs.

The Tridents eventually fell short by just 38 runs. Meanwhile, the former Australian skipper and the vice-skipper was seen sharing a moment after the conclusion of the match.

Reports earlier claimed there was a fallout between them after the ball-tampering fiasco in Cape Town.
