Gautam Gambhir, the name that doesn’t require any introduction in the cricket world. Not only in cricket but also Gautam Gambhir has garnered huge praises for his patriotism for the country. Meanwhile, he announced his retirement from the beautiful game of cricket ahead of IPL auctions for the 2019 edition.
Gambhir will always be remembered for his incredible service to Indian cricket. He was the chief run-scorer for Team India in the finals of the both ICC World Cup that was won under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
In his ODI career – from 2003 to 2013 – Gambhir accumulated 5238 runs at 39.68, with 11 tons and 34 half-centuries. Off all those 34 fifties, his 97-run knock in the ICC World Cup 2011 final will go down as the most memorable knock.
Set to play his last game in Ranji Trophy:
Coming to Test format, he smashed 4154 runs at an average of 41.96. In total, he appeared in 58 Test matches and scored nine centuries, 22 fifties and one double century. Of them, his 137 in Napier will always stand tall.
“At some stage, I would like to share the retired cricketer’s tag and would like to recycle myself to be useful for something else in cricket and beyond, let’s see,” Gautam Gambhir said while announcing the news.
Gautam Gambhir will feature in one last game when he will play for Delhi against Andhra in the upcoming Ranji game. Gambhir added he is pretty happy to finish his career while playing for his state.
“The next Ranji trophy game against Andhra will be my last day in the sun. It is all coming to an end from where it started at the Feroz Shah Kotla. I am big one on loyalty and I am glad I could finish with teams that I started my journey with. In this case, ending with both Delhi Daredevils and Delhi domestic side has given me immense satisfaction.
