Cricket Fraternity Sends Birthday Wishes To 'MR Consistent' Cheteshwar Pujara

When the Indian team management and the selectors were looking for a solid player to replace a champion like Rahul Dravid, the officials found a batsman in Saurashtra team scoring runs on a consistent basis with an old technique. Yeah, he is none other than Cheteshwar Pujara, who never looked behind after making his debut for Team India. He garnered the nicknames like ‘Mr Consistent’, ‘New Wall’ of India with his glorious performances on the field.

Pujara on Saturday turned 32 and on the occasion, the cricket fraternity came in unison to wish the batsman, who is India’s batting mainstay when it comes to Test cricket. He played an instrumental role in India’ maiden Test series win over Australia in 2018-19.

Patient Pujara finished with a staggering 521 runs in the series at an average of over 74. He has slammed three centuries and a half-century in the series Down Under.

Birthday boy Cheteshwar Pujara scored 5,740 runs in 75 Tests:

Since his debut in England in 2010, Pujara has established himself as one of India’s Test batting specialist.  Pujara was soon dubbed the ‘new wall’ of Indian cricket. He justified it initially, with a 159-run knock against New Zealand. Besides, he followed it with a match-winning double century against England in Ahmedabad.

Such was his form that Pujara also becomes the second fastest Indian batsman to complete 1000 Test runs in international cricket. He is only next to Sunil Gavaskar in terms of matches played and the fastest by the number of innings played.

The elegant Pujara has amassed 5,740 runs in 75 Tests at an average of 49.48. Pujara has so far scored 18 centuries and 24 fifties.

“An epitome of class, composure and technique, here’s wishing Team India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara a very happy birthday,” tweeted BCCI. “Pujara needs the priest’s blessing to get out! Happy birthday Cheteshwar Pujara. Have a great one,” tweeted Sachin Tendulkar in Marathi.

“Many more happy returns of the day to an absolute batting great of this generation – Cheteshwar Pujara. India very lucky to have someone like you and wish you lots of success in the coming years,” said Mohammad Kaif.
