Matthew Hayden was one of the finest openers to have played for Australia. His tall and high built allowed him to pull and hit lofted shots with ease. Hayden featured for Australia from 1993 to 2009 where he amassed over 14000 international runs but never got a chance to captain the side. He was also incidentally the most successful left-handed batsman to have donned the Australian side and scored at an average over 50 in the Tests and ODIs.
