Cricketing World Wishes a Very Special Birthday to VVS Laxman

It has been quite a special day. Not only because of team India winning the series against the Windies but also, it is the birthday of the most-loved cricketer in India, VVS Laxman. Perhaps, Laxman falls in that rare list of having zero haters. Meanwhile, he turns 44 on Thursday, and the wishes across the cricketing fraternity poured in.

Being born into a family of well-known doctors, Laxman also wanted to be a medical professional. He got an honorary Doctoral Degree from the TERI University in 2015. However, he also continued his passion of playing cricket.

Coming to his cricketing career, success didn’t come easy for VVS Laxman. After waiting for three years, he finally got his first Test century, and then the series against Australia completely changed the course of his career.

VVS Laxman will ever be remembered for his most excellent innings of 281 against Australia in Kolkata. His incredible knock registered one of the most significant victories for India in Test cricket, especially, against the Australian side.

He won ‘Man of the Match’ award after scoring an epic 281-run and soon, became the most dependable player for team India in the Test circuit. After a fine time, he called curtains on his career and then, started doing the mentor role for certain sides.

Post-retirement, he also handed his services for the state teams, as the coach and also mentored Bengal side as well. Further, he associated with Deccan Chargers and then Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.
