Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Ruturaj Gaikwad tested negative for Covid-19 ahead of their inaugural IPL 2020 fixture against Mumbai Indians. Gaikwad and fast bowler Deepak Chahar tested positive for Covid-19 days after their arrival to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Chennai.
Fortunately, Chahar had tested negative in the second result but Gaikwad was kept under medical supervision after testing positive for the second time in a row. Media reports have now claimed that Gaikwad has tested negative for Covid-19 but will continue to remain in quarantine and will undergo another round of test.
Gaikwad will be unavailable for the inaugural fixture between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) later in the day. He is still to get a clearance from the medical staff as the same is awaited.
A formidable Mumbai Indians will put their title on defense in IPL 2020. The Mumbai franchise led by Rohit Sharma has outplayed every other team in terms of IPL triumphs with four title to their name. Chennai Super Kings are just behind them as they have clinched the IPL title thrice under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.
IPL 2020 will be played entirely in UAE due to the pandemic situation forcing the cricket board to host the tournament away from India. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah will be the three venues used for the tournament. Dream 11 have been named as the sponsor for the upcoming season of the tournament after VIVO pulled out.
All the franchise have arrived in UAE with some of the foreign players still to join the squad. Players from England and Australia will join their respective franchises once their ongoing three-match T20I series concludes.
