Dale Steyn, Herschelle Gibbs React To Jos Buttler's Abusive Comment For Vernon Philander

There is fine line between sledging and abusing and Jos Buttler crossed that line during the thrilling Cape Town Test between England and South Africa. The England wicketkeeper let his emotions get the better of him and launched a stunning x-rated rant at Proteas veteran Vernon Philander towards the end of the fiercely fought contest.

The incident took place during the final session of the fifth day’s proceedings. With South Africa keeping five wickets intact at tea, England were desperately searching for wickets. And they did not take long to make early inroads in the last session. They picked up two quick wickets to brighten up their chances of levelling the series. However, Philander was showing enough composure to frustrate the English players.

And when the South Africa star came between a throw and Jos Buttler, the latter couldn’t help but object to the former failing to step out of the way so he could receive the throw.

“Get out the f***ing way,” said Jos Buttler with aggression, prompting Philander to stare back at him.

“F***ing move,” he continued. “You know it’s going to f***ing (inaudible), just move … f***ing k***head.”

First slip Ben Stokes backed his man, adding: “Don’t stare him out. He’s got a point, mate.”

Buttler completed the tirade by suggesting the throw had some work to do to “f***ing, get past that f***ing gut” without Philander standing in the way.

Jos Buttler’s comments have divided opinions and South Africa legends Dale Steyn and Herschelle Gibbs have given their take on the matter too. Both the former Test cricketers took to Twitter to express their feelings over the incident. While Dale Steyn made it clear that he was not impressed by the comment, Gibbs stated that there was nothing wrong with Buttler’s actions.

“People questioning joss buttler giving Vernon a spray,international cricket isn’t an audition for the church choir? #bigboypants,” wrote Gibbs.
