South African speedster Dale Steyn is all set to return to competitive cricket. He was signed by English County Club Hampshire for the upcoming Twenty20 Blast. The speedster will be returning after a prolonged five-month layoff.

As per reports, it was learnt that Steyn will be replacing his teammate Hashim Amla. However, the recent reports claim that he might be the replacement of Kiwi opener Colin Munro. The southpaw is a quality T20 player.

Meanwhile, Steyn will look to revive his career following a string of injuries which has kept him out of action for a long time.

Hampshire has confirmed Steyn as an overseas signing for the Natwest T20 Blast. Though he would get included in the squad as a replacement.

When you speak about cricket, there is not a better sight than a fast bowler running in with full tilt and squaring up batsmen with his exceptional pace and swing.

Well, one of the best exponents, who can exactly keep doing it on a consistent basis is none other than the South African speedster, Steyn.

However, over the years, his injuries have taken a serious toll on his career. He has been forced to pick and choose matches. Steyn had even gone to that extent of skipper majority of T20 cricket to prolong his career in Tests.

Steyn returned to Test cricket early in the year during the Test series against India. However, a heel injury in the first Test against India again ruled him out for three-four months. He couldn’t take part in the series against Australia which proceeded shortly after.

Director of Hampshire calls Dale Steyn one of the  best bowlers in the world

“Dale is one of the best bowlers in the world and is extremely motivated to get going after a frustrating period on the sidelines,” Director of Cricket of Hampshire Giles White was quoted by AFP.

Meanwhile, it must be noted Steyn is the second highest wicket-taker in Tests for South Africa. He has bagged 419 wickets and is just a couple of wickets away from veteran Shaun Pollock.

“It seems a great fit for both parties — we hope that we can help him get back to his best and we look forward to welcoming him to Hampshire,” White added.
