Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has decided to resign from Brisbane Heat’s head coach role. Vettori served as the head coach of the club for a period of four years. In fact, Daniel Vettori was also sacked from the coaching role of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. India’s former coach Gary Kirsten has replaced Vettori as the coach of the franchise.

Meanwhile, the best result for Brisbane Heat under the coaching tenure of Vettori came when the franchise qualified for the semifinal stage in BBL 2016-17. Furthermore, Daniel Vettori had also stood down as Middlesex’s coach in the T20 Blast. In fact, Vettori had also played as a player for the Brisbane Heat.

“After careful consideration over the past few weeks, I have decided not to seek a contract renewal as head coach of the Brisbane Heat,” Vettori said on Saturday (February 9). “I informed the General Manager of my decision prior to the game against Melbourne Stars at the MCG and that was accepted by the club. In fact, I told the playing group and coaching and support staff of my decision before last night’s match.

“I have loved my time at Brisbane, firstly as a player and then as a coach, and the experience of being part of the growth of the BBL has been personally rewarding.”

On the other hand, former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum also played his Big Bash League swansong while playing against Melbourne Stars. Brisbane Heat was able to cruise to convincing win as they won by 10 wickets and McCullum didn’t get a chance to bat.

McCullum also bids adieu to BBL

“It was important for us to do our best to send Baz off a winner in our last home game but equally so for Dan,” Heat captain Chris Lynn said after his side’s win over the Stars on Friday. “His composure throughout our campaigns has been a constant in the background and I’m grateful to have benefited from his experience and knowledge of the game.”

Meanwhile, the big win against Melbourne Stars has still kept Brisbane Heat’s hopes alive to qualify for the semifinal stage. Heat is currently at the fourth position after winning six matches out of the 14 they have played.

Daniel Vettori did a great job while coaching the franchise. However, he was not able to produce the results he would have liked. In fact, Brendon McCullum has shown his interest in the coaching career and we might see him as the coach of the Brisbane Heat in the next season of the BBL.
