Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul have shown concern for their family and withdrawn from the month-long tour to England, consisting three-Test, marking the resumption of international cricket. Cricket West Indies have acknowledged their decision and announced their squad for the Test series accordingly. The board had earlier shown concern for their players and suggested that it won’t force anyone to tour England.

The trio have shown concern for their families and withdrawn from tour: CWI chief executive Johnny Grave

The board chief executive Johnny Grave, has told Espncricinfo, that they wanted to select players who are comfortable to travel otherwise it will impact their individual performances. Grave also mentioned that every player has submitted their reason via e-mails to the cricket board.

“Keemo Paul is the sole breadwinner in his entire household and wider family. He was really concerned if something happened to him how his family would cope,” Johnny Grave told ESPNCricinfo.

Hetmyer said that he “didn’t feel comfortable from a safety point of view, leaving his home, leaving his family and heading over to England”.

According to Grave, “Darren Bravo had concerns about his health and any consequences that it may have on his young family. He also mentioned he made his decision with great remorse as it was always a huge honour for him to play for West Indies. So, yes, perfectly valid reasons and the ones that we fully respect. We were never going to force or try to coerce and we didn’t ask them to reconsider.”

The trio are centrally contracted with the cricket board. But as far as the Test format is concerned only Hetmyer has been a regular feature.
