The name of Haris Rauf is unknown at the moment, but if he fulfils his promise, he can become a world-class bowler in the future. That’s according to legendary Australian player David Hussey, the coach of Melbourne Stars, the team with which Rauf made his breakthrough in the Big Bash League (BPL).

Hailing from Pakistan, Rauf made an impact for all the right reasons when he got the opportunity to replace an injured Dale Steyn in the Melbourne side. Since then, he has impressed his team’s coach who has nothing but praise for the young speedster.

David Hussey tips Haris Rauf to become a legend for Pakistan:

After making quite an impact in the BBL, Rauf was called up to the national team for the series against Bangladesh. He responded by picking up two wickets in as many matches and credit should go Stars’ management for unearthing such a talented bowler.

Those who have seen Rauf in action will advocate that he is a one of kind talent. He is quicky, pacy and can constantly bowl at 150kph, which is a big asset, in the modern game.

The 26-year-old has snared 16 wickets in seven matches for his BBL outfit, which is the fifth-highest in the league.

Stars’ coach Hussey talked about the young lad after his side’s defeat at the hands of Brisbane Heat on Sunday.

He said, “Whatever he does, I hope he actually represents Pakistan for 100 Tests and 400 T20Is and 150 one day internationals. He’s brought a different dynamic to our group, he’s tried every game he’s played, he fields his butt off and he’s just fitted in the group perfectly.”

It’s not easy to fill in the shoes of someone like Steyn, who is an idol for Rauf himself, but he has done an admirable job so far.

After national duty, Rauf should be back with Melbourne as his BBL team looks to prepare for the qualifying final against Sydney Sixers (SS).
