Team India produced a sensational all-round performance in the opening ODI against England as they thrashed the hosts by 8 wickets to go 1-0 up in the three-match series. It was a thoroughly entertaining performance by the visitors. England was nowhere in the picture as India were the most dominant team in the match by far.

After batting first England raced off to 73. Both Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow looked in sublime touch. However, the introduction of Kuldeep Yadav totally changed the complexion of the match. Roy was dismissed while attempting a reverse sweep. However, the next two wickets were simply top class. He bamboozled Joe Root and Bairstow with two different deliveries.

Despite a brief partnership in the middle, England found it difficult to get back into the game. Jos Buttler played a few exceptional shots but was dismissed by Kuldeep. He was at the top of his game and kept on foxing the English batters. He eventually finished with a superb spell of 5/25 which is the best by a spinner in English conditions.

The target of 269 set by England was never going to challenge a star-studded Indian batting line-up. Rohit Sharma smashed a sensational century and carried on from where he left in Bristol T20I. He remained unbeaten on 137 of just 114 deliveries which were included with 15 fours and 4 sixes. Kohli also played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 75.

India coasted to the target in the end by 8 wickets. The form of India will definitely bother the No 1 team in the world. They are the No 1 team and they didn’t live up to their reputation today. Suspended Australian opener David Warner feels that this Indian side is a tough nut to crack. He also feels that it will be an amazing World Cup next year.

Warner’s take

“Fair to say @ECB_cricket have been the best side for a while but this will be a great series. @BCCI @imVkohli @ImRo45 in good touch. Gonna be one amazing World Cup next year in England,” he wrote on his twitter handle.
