David Warner: Happy to See the Smiles Back in the Camp

India registered their first loss after nine consecutive matches, as Australia managed to get their first win on the tour of India.

Winning the toss, Steve Smith won the toss and elected to bat first on a typical Bengaluru track, that is a paradise for batsmen. Aaron Finch and David Warner took apart the Indian bowling and put on a humongous 231 run opening stand.

The visitors did not get the score that they would have liked but on any day a 300 plus chase is a tricky one especially when teams like India and Australia go head-to-head. Aussies set India a target of 334 and at the halfway mark, the match was very well in the balance.

Indian opening duo gave the hosts a brilliant start but miscommunication between Rohit and Virat put India in a spot of bother, two young middle-order batsmen, Kedar Jadhav and Manish Pandey tried to steady the ship for Men in Blue but their momentum was halted by a slight drizzle which turned out to be the game changer.

After the break, Kedar Jadhav lost his wicket and soon Manish Pandey too lost his wicket and MS Dhoni in the end tried but failed to take the team over the line.

For his brilliant hundred in his 100th ODI match, David Warner was adjudged as man of the match. Warner in the post-match presentation said, he is happy to bring the smiles back in the camp and is was good to see players executing their plans in the middle.

“It feels fantastic. Put a great smile on our face getting this win tonight. To come out here and play the ODI format in India, on wickets I’m quite used to, is fantastic. Really enjoying it. We set out from the front to be as conservative as we could and bat deep. Winning gains you some momentum. The way the guys played with the bat was fantastic. Good to see guys execute their skills they’ve been honing in the nets.” Said Warner.
