It wasn’t the best of years for David Warner. He was the mastermind of the ball tampering scandal and had to face the aftermath of the fans. However, Warner is a player who takes his criticism head on and he knew that he committed a blunder. Meanwhile, David Warner said he spent some quality time with his family which was equally important for him.

The swashbuckling southpaw opener has undergone surgery on his shoulder and had to miss out on the action while playing in the Bangladesh Premier League where he was playing for Sylhet Sixers.

Warner shares his opinion.

Meanwhile, India won the Test series against Australia for the first time on Australia soil. However, there is no doubt that the series would have been more competitive had Warner and Smith were part of Australia squad. However, it wasn’t to be the case and Warner believes that the host’s batting was not up to the mark.

Warner gave credit to Cheteshwar Pujara who scored 521 runs and faced 1258 balls to suck out every ounce of energy from Australian bowlers.

“I can’t say what would have happened if I and Smith were there because we were not there. I can only judge the way India was playing because they played very well. They outplayed us. Tim Paine said it could have gone either way with the series scoreline. (I) couldn’t get to watch too much of it at home because I was busy. But of what I saw, India played well. Obviously, Australia did not bat as well as they would have liked. And with the bowling, they didn’t take early wickets and India went top of that. The credit goes to the way Pujara batted because he pretty much won the series for India. He batted so well. In fact, he had the temperament to bat the whole game. He batted 300 to 400 balls every time he batted and that is his gameplan. He was the difference and the bowlers were fantastic”, David Warner said while talking to Cricbuzz.

Warner had to go through a difficult phase. However, the combative batsman believes he got to spend more time with his family. Furthermore, Warner said he got more time to ponder on his actions.

I got to spend time with my family.

“It’s tough when you are not playing. But, for me, the reality is there is lot more to life than just cricket. We live in a bubble. For us, there is lot of stuff like we are always on a routine. You go to training, then you play cricket, you return and go to sleep, you get back up in the morning again, you pack your bag, you fly for the next destination and you get back at it again. I am doing that for the last six to seven years for all three formats. You got time to reflect and refresh”.

“For me, the most important thing is that I spent a lot of time with my family which meant a lot to me. They play a significant role in what I do. The sacrifices of my wife and my children for me to allow me to play the game of cricket, the game that I love, helped me massively in the last 10 months. I am back in the park playing franchise cricket and I am getting good experience and exposure to different conditions around the world. It’s great that you are a part of that and there are world class players playing in this tournament”.

Meanwhile, David Warner also said that he went on to miss his Australian teammates. Warner has spent some good memories while playing with his teammates and it is natural that he had missed his good mates.

I miss everyone.

“I miss everyone. You are always going to miss people. That is what is great about franchise cricket. You create different friendships and that’s bringing team harmony and environment”.

Furthermore, David Warner will like to get back into the team as soon as his suspension is over. Australia will desperately want both Warner and Smith to get back into the team before the World Cup. However, Warner said he might have to wait for Cricket Australia decision after his suspension is served.

“I have to wait and hear what Cricket Australia have got for me at the moment. I take one step at a time and play the next two games here. Then go home and get assessed (as to) what the issues are with the tear and play my cards as it is”.

David Warner will like to hit the ground running when he will make his comeback. However, he will first look to get back to full fitness after his surgery. Australia knows the attributes Warner brings to the table and they would be willing to get him back to action.
