The primary reason for the ugly spat between Australian opener David Warner and Quinton de Kock has been revealed. According to reports, De Kock took a jibe at Warner regarding his wife, Candice.
Original CCTV footage from the stairway to the dressing room revealed an agitated Australian opener giving a mouthful to the young wicket-keeper.
Warner was seen picking up a fight with the young wicketkeeper from South Africa before the likes of Paine, Lyon, and captain Smith forcefully took him back to the dressing room.
The situation was brought under control before Rabada, and de Villiers had to intervene. Throughout the day, the Aussie opener seemed fired up, as he gave a mouthful to the Aiden Markram post-AB’s run out.
Australia spinner Nathan Lyon cheekily threw the ball on AB when he was down, failing to reach the crease after he was run-out on a knot.
The Aussies, featuring Warner and Mitchell Starc resorted to sledging throughout the day. Australia went on to win the first Test in Durban by 118 runs.
Warner- no stranger to controversy
Both Cricket Australia (CA) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) suggested that the matter is now in the hands of the International Cricket Council (ICC). CSA reckoned the incident was “not in the spirit of the game”.
This is not the first time Warner was involved in a spat with a player from the opposition. The explosive opener has had altercations with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jonathan Trott, Thami Tsolekile and Joe Root famously.
During the post-match presentation, Australian captain Steve Smith stood by his comrade’s reaction post personal barbs regarding David Warner’s wife. Candice is a professional ironwoman, surf lifesaver and model.
Warner’s wife is known for her string of relationships with high-profile sportsman such as NRL star Braith Anasta, rugby union player Matt Henjak.
Candice is infamous for her “toilet tryst” with Sonny Bill Williams at a Sydney hotel in 2007. The video got captured on a mobile phone camera.
