Wednesday (June 13) will perhaps witness a new dawn in the Australian cricket when Tim Paine & Co. take on England in the first match of the five-match One-Day International series. The series will be first since the ball-tampering scandal that tarnished Australian cricket’s image.

Cameron Bancroft was sensationally caught applying sandpaper on the ball to change its state, and the repercussions soon followed. The scandal brought wholesome changes in Australian cricket. ICC banned skipper Steven Smith for one match before Cricket Australia dealt with the scandal with a stern hand.

It banned Smith and his deputy David Warner for a year and handed Bancroft a nine-month ban. Not only that, Darren Lehmann also stepped down as head coach for the same reason. Early this month, James Sutherland resigned as Cricket Australia’s chief executive, thus ending his 20-year association with the board.

Australia appointed Tim Paine as skipper in ODIs and Tests while the T20I captaincy went to Aaron Finch.

Justin Langer replaced Lehmann as the head coach. With Australia now gearing up to move on from all the setbacks, they received a message from none other than Warner.

The tainted opener took to Twitter to wish the team, writing:

“Good luck @tdpaine36 JL and the boys tonight. Have fun and play well. Looking forward to watching @CricketAus win ??.”

Meanwhile, Warner will also be associated with the series albeit in a manner he is not accustomed to.  The southpaw will join Channel Nine’s commentary team for the series. The hard-hitting batsman is also close to returning to competitive cricket. He along with Smith will make his comeback at the Global T20 Canada League after being picked in the players draft.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
