Dean Elgar’s tour of India ended in the worst possible manner. One of the most experienced players in the current South Africa team, Dean Elgar started the tour on a brilliant note by scoring a century in Hyderabad. But since then, everything has gone downhill for the left-handed batsman.

He failed miserably with the bat in the following innings and was also slammed by the Indian fans after complaining about hotel and food on offer. And as if those were not enough, he suffered a concussion in his last innings which brought a premature end to his tour. Umesh Yadav hit Dean Elgar on his helmet with a vicious bouncer and the South Africa opener ended up suffering a concussion.

He was later replaced in the playing eleven by Theunis de Bruyn. Dean Elgar will now remain on the sidelines for the next six days due to concussion. Fortunately, for the Proteas, they do not play before December 26.

“The opening batsman will be closely monitored over the next 24 hours, followed by reassessment every 24 hours until signs and symptoms resolve. The soonest he can return to play is in six days’ time in keeping with the standard concussion management protocol,” said Cricket South Africa in a statement.

Talking about the match, India thrashed South Africa by an innings and 202 runs in the third Test to sweep the three-match series. With the win, India won their fifth consecutive game in the ICC Test Championship. The win also helped India register their first-ever Test whitewash over the African country.

South Africa could add only one run to their overnight score of 132 for 8 before Shahbaz Nadeem dismissed Theunis de Bruyn and Lungi Ngidi on successive deliveries in just the second over of the day.
