Former Australia batsman Dean Jones and an Indian fan were indulged in war of words over Rishabh Pant’s current form. The highly-rated wicketkeeper continues to struggle in white-ball format. Before Pant made his international debut, it was widely expected that he would hit the ground running in white-ball format.

However, the script has unfolded in an unexpected manner thus far. While the hard-hitting batsman has done well in Tests, he has failed to impress in ODIs and T20Is. He made his Test debut last year in England and went on to score a century in the same series. In the following series against West Indies, he scored two fifties.

Rishabh Pant then further enhanced his reputation by slamming another Test century in Australia. But unlike Tests, his form in ODIs and T20Is has left a lot to be desired. His recent struggle in West Indies attracted widespread criticism for him. Rishabh Pant faced criticism more for his poor selection and temperament rather than his low scores.

And recently it led to a war of words between a fan and Dean Jones on Twitter. It all started when Dean Jones took to Twitter to state that Rishabh Pant doesn’t deserve any special treatment. However, it did not go down with one user and he hit back by reminding Pant’s contribution.

“So making 100 and taking catches is not a contribution according to you.if a young wicketkeeper batsman scores hundreds in Australia and Englang early in his career and you are not impressed by him then he will never be able to satisfy you.bcz u r just trying to fing -ves in him,” wrote the user.

Jone then admitted that Pant is an ‘amazing talent’ but was quick to point out the youngster’s numbers in ODIs and T20Is, writing:

“@RishabhPant17 has amazing talent.. his Test career is good.. but ODI: 0,20,32,4 and T20: 19, 4, 65no 4, 0, 1, 3 Pant needs to work on his off side play and blood rushes.. knowing who to hurt and knowing when to back off. Batting is a percentage game”
