For years, Pakistani cricketers have been made fun of for their poor English speaking skills. Every now and then, one can come across a post or video aimed at the highly-talented Pakistani cricketers just because they cannot speak English properly. The situation is nothing less than bizarre as English is not their first language. Moreover, English has little to do with playing cricket.

But despite that, the Pakistani cricketers have always faced trolling and embarrassment for not being able to speak English properly. And it happened once again on Friday when an Australian journalist named Tony Tardio seemingly mocked a Pakistani cricketer for his English. Pakistan are currently touring Australia and are currently taking on the hosts in the second Test in Adelaide.

The journalist took to Twitter to state that he heard an interview with a Pakistani pacer and could not understand a single word, writing:

“Just heard an interview with a Pakistani fast bowler at the Adelaide Oval on Fox sports and I can say with a fair bit of certainty that I didn’t understand one word.”

Unsurprisingly, Tardio was slammed by the fans for his distasteful tweet and former Australia batsman Dean Jones slammed him too. Jones, who coached Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, told the deluded journalist that Pakistan cricketers never shy away from trying to speak English which is their second language. He also pointed out that Australian cricketers do not speak Urdu when they play in UAE, writing:

“At least they try Tony… English is their second language and our guys don’t speak Urdu when they are in UAE for matches when being interviewed..”

Talking about the match, Australia were 70 for 1 at tea break. Pakistan, who lost the previous game by an innings and five runs, started well with the ball as Shaheen Afridi dismissed Joe Burns for just 4. David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne then steadied the ship for the hosts.
