ToggleFormer Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta has said that KL Rahul should continue keeping wickets for India in the T20I. He believes that Rahul should be an essential part of India’s plans for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup later this year in Australia.
KL Rahul has been an impressive performer for India lately in the limited-overs format and has been an excellent wicketkeeper-batsman for the Men in Blue. His performance in the T20I series against New Zealand earned him the Man of the Series. He is slowly cementing his place in the Indian team as a regular wicketkeeper-batsman.
Now, former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta has also vouched for KL Rahul to keep wickets for India in the limited-overs format.
Deep Dasgupta Backs KL Rahul To Keep Wickets For India
“KL Rahul should play all 3 formats. He is a quality batsman and a good wicketkeeper. My assessment is he is a must-have in the T20 side. Look, we are talking about 2 T20 World Cups and he is an important part of the Indian T20 side,” Deep Dasgupta told indiatoday.in.
“Rahul is too good a player to not be playing all 3 formats. In T20s, yes he can be a very good wicketkeeper-batsman — I have been saying this for a long time. In ODIs, it’s a 50-50 call. He has been doing well at No. 5 and it can be decided if he should keep wickets or not,” Dasgupta added.
KL Rahul Should Keep Wickets In Tests Too: Deep Dasgupta
“Rahul should be playing Test cricket as well. But he is not going to keep wickets in Tests. It has to be seen how much he can play and a call on his workload should also be considered,” added Dasgupta.
However, KL Rahul keeping wickets for India in Test cricket looks a rare possibility in the near future as Wriddhiman Saha has been up to the mark in the most extended format of the game since MS Dhoni’s departure in 2014.
