Deep Dasgupta Backs KL Rahul To Keep Wickets For India In T20Is

Former wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta has backed KL Rahul to keep wickets for India in the T20Is. Deep Dasgupta has shared his views on the ongoing struggle for a regular wicketkeeper-batsman in team India for the limited-overs setup. KL Rahul-Rishabh Pant has become the talk of the town in recent times.

Since MS Dhoni’s sabbatical after the 2019 world cup, the team has failed to find a competent replacement. Pant had been given numerous chances, but he failed miserably. But, his concussion in the first ODI against Australia made way for Rahul, and the Karnataka wicketkeeper-batsman has become a regular starter since then.

Now, Deep Dasgupta believes that KL Rahul should be the preferred wicketkeeper-batsman for India in the T20Is.

Deep Dasgupta Heaps Praise On KL Rahul’s Wicketkeeping

“In T20s definitely I feel KL Rahul should keep for India, he understands how to keep and bat well. He’s a proper wicketkeeper, he’s technically sound. We need to invest in Rishabh Pant in the long term. You have to be creative in how to mentor him or guide him, you need to show him tough love and play domestic cricket. It will be a shame if he does not achieve as per his potential,” the former wicketkeeper-batsman told Sportskeeda.

Dhoni was last seen in the Indian colours in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Unfortunately, India lost the game to New Zealand and were eliminated from the competition. Since then, Dhoni has been away from the Indian team.

His return was much anticipated with the return of IPL 2020 this year as he was back to the field sweating it hard for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, the BCCI had to postpone the tournament indefinitely due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. And, this has again given way to speculations on Dhoni’s future with Team India.

KL Rahul Has Done Considerably Well In India’s Recent Outings

KL Rahul has been an impressive performer for India lately in the limited-overs format and has been an excellent wicketkeeper-batsman for the Men in Blue. His performance in the T20I series against New Zealand earned him the Man of the Series. He is slowly cementing his place in the Indian team as a regular wicketkeeper-batsman.
