Deep Dasgupta, the former Indian wicketkeeper-turned commentator, has said that he is baffled by the fact that West Indies Test captain, Jason Holder is not rated as a top-quality all-rounder across all the three formats of the game.

Jason Holder is the No.1 Test all-rounder for some time now but the burly West Indian is criminally underrated in white-ball cricket.

Holder, who last played a T20I for the West Indies in late 2019, was stripped of his leadership duties in white-ball formats but since then the all-rounder has been doing pretty well in whatever opportunities he has got in the shortest formats.

Jason Holder had a brilliant CPL campaign for Barbados Tridents and his addition to the SunRisers Hyderabad squad as a replacement for injured Mitchell Marsh has proved to be a game-changer for David Warner-led unit.

“Jason Holder not rated as a top all-rounder across all three formats is beyond me, it’s beyond me. At the start of the season, I said Jason Holder being picked for SRH is the best move.” Deep Dasgupta told Sports Today.

“Also, look at his numbers in the last 6 months, as a batsman, as a bowler in CPL. He is a really quality all-rounder. He might not be as explosive as Ben Stokes but he is somebody whom you can rely on, more often than not.”

Since joining the ‘Orange Army’, Jason Holder has proved to be the ‘MVP’ for his side with both bat and ball. Besides being economical with the ball and claiming crucial wickets, Jason Holder has chipped in with the bat to play a couple of handy match-winning cameos.

Holder was at his imperious best in his last outing against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, where he not only claimed three wickets, including the prized scalps of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, he also chipped in with the bat to stitch a match-winning unbeaten 67-run-stand with Kane Williamson.

Overall, Jason Holder has scored 55 runs in the 38 balls he has faced at a strike-rate of 144.74 besides claiming 13 wickets in just 6 games at an average of 14.08. Holder will once again be the key to SRH’s fortunes in the all-important Qualifier 02 on Sunday.
