The Dehradun International Cricket Stadium got unveiled on Saturday (26th May). The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat did the proceedings. It got decided after a senior delegation of experts from the world cricket body International Cricket Council (ICC) assessed the facility of the stadium, last week.

After evaluating all the facilities of the stadium which included the standard of player’s amenities, requirements of broadcast and media, they concluded it is one of the best venues they have visited recently.

The stadium is located in the capital of Uttarakhand. It will undoubtedly turn out to be one of the most picturesque grounds in India along with the one in Dharamshala.

Located at the backdrop of hills, it shows a beautiful landscape. The stadium can hold up to 25,000 spectators. The sitting arrangements across the stadium provide an opportunity – to watch the uninterrupted action on the cricket field.

The design of the Dehradun stadium has enormous relevance to the proud past.

Well, it also serves as a bridge to the modern era. It will allow the spectators of the ground to get a 21st-century fan experience.

Moreover, the facilities of the stadium include state of the art, banquet halls, hotels, restaurants, conference rooms. It will provide spectators with experience interactive viewing.

The stadium in Dehradun can evacuate people in eight minutes owing to any emergency. It is the standard set by the International Security Guidelines. There will be guest rooms, Restaurants, bowling arena, auditorium and indoor sports facility.

The stadium has been designed by Collage Design. The Dehradun Stadium is the first in India to have LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold standard sporting arena in the country.

CEO says it was indeed a challenging effort 

The CEO and founder of the Collage Design, Ramkumar Subramaniam was questioned about the splendid efforts. He admitted the fact it is a challenging process. He further stated it indeed proved to be a complex process which has multiple stakeholders.

It is done to conceptualise and develop the modern sports facilities. He conceded the fact that stadium is constructed while having a vision of creating a world class sporting arena.

“It’s a complex and challenging process. It involves multiple stakeholders to conceptualize and develop modern sports facilities. It has been an immensely fulfilling journey with the State Government of Uttarakhand. Its been great to realise their vision of creating a world-class facility that would serve as a benchmark for other states to invest and promote sports,” press release quoted Subramaniam as saying.

But, the stadium has been chosen as the adopted home ground of Afghanistan.

In addition, we know that India has supported Afghanistan wholeheartedly and it just a continuation of their support. They will host their 1st international game after getting an official ICC status in June, 2017.

Also, we will witness Afghanistan and Bangladesh squaring off in a three-match T20I series. The series will conclude on 7th June.
